I would like to start a series talking about “Good” and “Evil”. And, I really would like to exchange ideas with you, gentle readers.
In order to begin the discussion, can we first define what is good and what is evil? Or is it like what the Supreme Court Justice said about pornography: “I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it.”
There is a problem with that type of definition, though. There are some individuals loose on the streets that see dead bodies as “pornographic”. THAT certainly doesn’t meet my definition of “prurient”.
For another example, when we watched the Twin Towers collapse on 9-11, I expect that most people here in these United States thought that was an “evil” act. But in the mid-east people were rejoicing: did they think it was “good”?
To say things are “good” or “evil” requires a making a judgment. On what basis are those judgments made?
