There is a joke that goes something like:
Joe returns from a business trip a day early. He walks into the bedroom and finds his wife in bed and his best friend hiding in the closet. Always a quick thinker, his friend says: “Who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes.”
Far fetched? Well in real life…..
Here is an article published by the Discovery network on January 8 of this year. It states that “North America …snow cover has shrunk.” Lots of people watch the Discovery channel and they believe what’s published/presented. After all, the information comes from the “Most Learned and Respected Scientists”.
But then your lying eyes get in the way. Actual measurements show that the snow pack in the US is at 137% of normal.
Another article used the level behind dams on the Colorado River as an indirect measure of snow fall. The article (it was some time ago that I read it) came to the conclusion that the drop in the level of Lake Powell proved that snow fall was down.
Your lying eyes have deceived you again! Measurements of Lake Powell show that the level now is some 200 feet higher than it was in 1964.
If you want to give your lying eyes a chance to see. In the link abve, look up all Lake Powell data for a day of the year. On May 24, 1964, the level was 3413 feet above sea level. On May 24, 2010, it was 3623.
Don’t you just hate it when reality gets in the way of a good story?

PS I got this from “Watts Up With That?” blog. I recommend it highly.
