Let’s suppose that you are the Supreme Dictator. And anything you want, you can just buy. It’s easy: General Motors? No Sweat!, Bear Stearns? Got it made in the shade! The entire health care industry? Pass a law and sign a piece of paper! Since you control the printing presses, you can just print more money. Cool!
But. when other people figure out what you are doing they will lose faith in your money.
That can be bad. Very bad.
When the Rhodesians ceded power to Robert Mugabe and friends in 1970, the Rhodesian/Zimbabwe dollar was worth a little more than $1, actually $1.47.
Mugabe promised to set things right. He was going to take from the rich evil white people and give to the poor. (Well, his friends anyway.) And guess what.
Here is a largest bill printed in Zimbabwe. $Z 100,000,000,000,000. And it won’t buy a postage stamp. They are sold on E-Bay as novelties. I bought a package of 100.
If you want to be rich, really rich, send me an email and I will sell you one for what I paid for it: $2.00. You too can be rich!
Heaven forbid that the world looses faith in the US dollar. In a matter of weeks everything you have will be worth less than this bank-note, i.e worthless.
