The initial victory in Iraq was without rival in the annals of military history. All of the Most Wise and Learned knew that defeating Hussein was going to be very difficult. Hussein himself spoke of a thousand Mogadishus that would cause the US to cut and run just like Clinton did in Somalia. The Self Anointed Fount of Wisdom, the New York Times, said that Hussein would use WMDs (poison gas and others) on our troops. They knew.
(After all, Hussein had used them ten times before as per Clinton’s National Security Adviser, Sandy the Socks Berger. They had been used in the war with Iran and to commit genocide to the Kurds.)
The US military ordered 10,000 body bags.
The US military crushed the Iraqi Army completely between March 20 and May 1. Six weeks to defeat the 5th largest army in the world (I think that it was 5th at the time.) The mission was accomplished; the war was over.
But, we didn’t know how to win the PEACE. It started poorly and all of the Most Wise and Learned now said the war was all a mistake just like they said before the war. “This war is lost!” they said and General David Petraeus was called “General Betray Us”. General Petraeus was called a liar before he said a word. And it was said that he could only be believed if you have a “total suspension of disbelief”.
But then it turned around. “I AM the One We Have Been Waiting For” now claims the success in Iraq as his own. What a Bozo!

And for all of his faults, GW had the political courage to do what was right. He kept us safe between 9-11 and the end of his Presidency. We should be so lucky now!
